Together Friends Organization (TFO) believes every student has the right and capacity to have vibrant, meaningful K-12 educational experiences that provide crucial learning and lifelong skills that bolster a student’s self-awareness and confidence. TFO offers each student a stunning portfolio, a professional reputation, and diverse opportunities that allow him/her to enter further academics, training, the workforce, and, consequentially, sustain a meaningful career. (TFO) has a proven history of breaking down barriers for the growing number of students in communities across America who lack reliable access to STEM programs and foundational learning due to no fault of their own, including factors like generational lack of education, poverty-stricken communities, and most recently, COVID and its direct restrictions to learning.
Collaborative Approach for Student Success
TFO's team is dedicated to working with local schools to create a personalized, adaptive trajectory for students through our comprehensive after-school STEAM/e program, "The Youth Exploring Options," and our summer STEAM/e enrichment camp, "Discover Me." Both programs support students in overcoming obstacles that may hinder their long-term growth and success.
Engaging Students with STEAM/e Opportunities
At TFO, we inspire our members to explore new passions within the STEAM/e fields. Each week, we host guest speakers who share their personal journeys, expertise, and reasons for choosing their field. These professionals proudly share both their achievements and the challenges they’ve overcome, offering students valuable insights into the realities of pursuing a career in STEAM/e. Our field trips further expose students to various career options, broadening their horizons and sparking interests in opportunities they may not have previously considered.
Building Relationships and Teamwork
TFO incorporates 21st Century Learning Skills into all of our STEAM/e team-building activities. We foster an environment where students build relationships with their peers, embracing each other's strengths and weaknesses. Our activities are designed to boost self-confidence, self-esteem, empathy, and compassion. Through our "Fail Forward" initiative, students learn to trust their teammates, promoting security, respect, and a sense of belonging within the group. Weekly competitions in our Together Friends Career Connection Bowls solidify knowledge of STEAM/e careers, deepening students' understanding of the fields they explore.
Cultivating Communication and Mindfulness
Our team-based activities focus on enhancing collaboration and teamwork. The outcome is a group of happier, better-connected students who are improving their communication and listening skills. Additionally, our programs nurture mindfulness, patience, and respect for both self and others, which extend to their interactions with teammates and coaching staff.
Sparking Curiosity in Math, Science, and Reading
Our afterschool enrichment programs are specifically designed to ignite curiosity in math, science, and reading. We introduce our members to general STEAM/e concepts through visual and hands-on experiential activities. These engaging tasks encourage students to think creatively and approach challenges from new perspectives, fostering a love for learning in key academic areas.
